We are pleased to inform you that the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan – int@j, has released a new Position Paper titled: “Developing Smart Cities in Jordan: Advocating for Necessary Policies and ICT Infrastructure.”
This paper was developed in collaboration with Jordanian expert Dr. Mazen Juma, as part of the Digital Economy Policy & Innovation Digest – Issue #1.
The paper presents a comprehensive national vision that connects policies, legislation, and infrastructure requirements for smart urban transformation in Jordan, with a focus on Amman and Aqaba as leading models for smart city development.
Key highlights of the paper include:
- Opportunities for accelerating smart urban transformation across Jordanian cities.
- Assessment of digital infrastructure, internet usage, and connectivity indicators.
- Jordan’s global ranking in major Smart City indices for 2025.
- Challenges related to energy, water, and resource management.
- A proposed model to establish the Jordan National Smart Cities Council (JNSCC) to unify national efforts.
- Practical recommendations to enhance policies, strengthen partnerships, expand digital infrastructure, and align major cities with global smart city standards.
This position paper comes at a critical time, offering evidence-based insights, global benchmarking, and an actionable framework to enhance Jordan’s competitiveness and support sustainable urban development.
